NOTE: (2010-11-23) - 8:26-39 - Healing of the Demoniac. Has it occurred to you that Jesus couldn't have done this today, because it would be “politically incorrect” - and He would have been sued? But, it was incorrect to raise pigs in Israel in His day - so it was poetic justicethat He let the demons enter the herd of swine! There were some 2000 in this herd - just think of the number of demons in this poor demoniac named Legion! And these pigs would rather drown than live with demons!

In Jesus day, it was recognized that many problems of the people, was because of being demonized. There were deaf and dumb spirits. There were crippling spirits. There were torturing demons, and many more. Jesus immediately knew if exorcism was necessary, and once done, healing naturally followed. Chinese people have been aware of both the need of casting out demons, and receiving healing. One man from the Middle East said to us - “Don't think it is just the Middle East that has demons. You in the United States have them too. But theyare the wise demons who get behind pulpits!”

Notice the final end for demons - the Abyss. At least it is like a temporary holding prison until they finally end up in the Lake of Fire, prepared for Satan and his angels. One third of the angels fell when he was cast out of heaven, as Lucifer, son of the morning. Hell was not prepared for us - but if members of the human race choose in this life to side with Satan and his spirits, then their choice leaves no alternative for them but to share Satan's end. Notice too, that the one third of the angels that fell with Satan are in residence with him in the lower heavenlies. Demons on earth are spirits too, but a distinct order from Satan's angels.

8:40-56 - Many lessons are observable in this paragraph. See how Jesus was aware of the power of the Holy Spirit leaving Him when He received a touch of faith from a desperate woman. See too how Jesus restricted audience to the raising from the dead of a daughter to but three of His disciples and the parents. Sleep of death is for the body prior to the resurrection. Soul sleep is not Scriptural, as taught by some sects. At death, the spirits of believers immediately are returned to God by angels, for He is the Father of the spirits of all men. Unbelieving spirits are taken by demons to hell. They too do not sleep. Federal penitentiaries are the final end of criminals in our land, and line up with the Lake of Fire in the Bible. Jesus taught on hell and eternal punishment more than He did on heaven - and He would know, having created all things prior to His incarnation. J.A.W.
